Your Dog Is A Carnivore – Not Omnivore.

Dogs – like wolves – have zero metabolic need for carbs, sugars and starches – that’s reality. This is why dogs absolutely thrive on a proper raw diet. A proper raw diet contains none of this.

Humans are omnivores – we produce amylase in our saliva. And amylase breaks down starches into sugars that can be digested. What is a carnivore? They do not produce any amylase in their saliva – so from the time they chew and swallow – the breaking down of starch isn’t happening.

Dog can produce small amounts of amylase in their pancreas. And when you hear about diabetes – it’s a problem with the pancreas. When you hear the term pancreatitis – yes – it’s the pancreas. Why does the pancreas get inflamed? It’s stressed out trying to produce what’s needed to break down what the dog is eating.

Dr. Jean Dodds is one of the top when it comes to animal endocrinology. She will tell you that so many dogs are suffering from low grade pancreatitis as a result of all this. I’ve had pancreatitis – it’s not pleasant. Low grade pancreatitis can elevate after feeding dog kibble – because it contains all the crap that the dog doesn’t need.

Vets will tell you that corn is a great protein? The dog isn’t getting whole peaches and cream corn in their diet. They are getting what’s left over from the processing of field corn – dent corn – the number one produced corn in the USA. Dent corn really isn’t digestible – but it’s processed for the high about of corn syrup. The dog is getting the indigestible material that is left over.

A ton of beef? A ton of chicken? A ton of pork? Or a ton of leftover corn and such? Which is more likely to produce profit for dog food manufacturers? And why are vets pushing this crap in the first place?

I’m sorry – the reality is – dog food is a dumping ground for the stuff that we won’t or can’t eat. And there is a reason why your dog is producing large amounts of feces out the rear end. It’s mostly indigestible matter that they are eating.

When dogs are raw fed? There isn’t much left over in the line of feces.

Can dog food cause behavioural issues? You’re damned right.

How much raw food is enough? Do they get all the nutrients they need?

Dogs will do fine on strict raw meat, bone, organs and fish. And balanced in vits and minerals over time is fine. I know people who only feed whole chickens only, guts, head, feet and all. Variety through beef, pork and others is nice, but not always necessary. I couldn’t imagine being new to raw feeding and trying to dip a toe into the world of raw feeding. That’s another war going on. Dogs really have no dietary need for carbs, starches or sugars. As a carnivore, their bodies aren’t equipped to deal with much of it. I’ve been feeding raw diet for over 25 years, only needed a vet for injury.
