Your Dog Is A Monster. Your Dog Has Morality. Do You?
Skinner loved to mess with the brain – Carl Jung, oh, he loved to mess with the mind. Jung didn’t believe you could be a moral person until you recognized your capacity for evil. If all you see is the good side – and you run away from the bad – the Jeckyl and Hyde? Everyone has a Hyde – that monster with the capacity for evil that you don’t want to understand.
What is a behaviour? Your body’s response to an environmental trigger. The only free will you have is choice – your intended desires – and choice comes from the mind. The decision to make the action is all – the behaviour – is all brain. If you’re laid up in the hospital with 2 broken legs – you can choose and desire a glass of water all you want but your body is making the decision that you’re not going anywhere.
It’s the ability to know the monster that you are – and the ability to control that monster that makes you a moral person. It’s called “Self Control” – what Skinner called “Self Management Of Behaviours”. Jung wouldn’t tell you to go out into the world and start using the monster that you are – but understand it, embrace it. Understand your capacity for bad.
Every animal has the capacity to kill – usually it’s for survival – to eat – to satisfy that base primal Positive Reinforcement that is your operant conditioning. The survival of the animal and the species. Dogs have killed in a fit of rage. Dogs have injured in a fit of rage. But we never ask the question “Why”? Why did the dog do it?
Jonathan Edwards would tell you that we know about our behaviors – but not about its’ causes. The Why. The Diagnosis. If a dog bites – I want to know why it happened – there is a cause for it – a reason. I’ve been bitten a few times by dogs – it was my own fault. I stuck a body part where it didn’t belong – invaded a dogs personal space without permission and I got corrected for it – punished for it. My bad, the dog doesn’t deserve a death sentence.
But that’s all dog training is today – a solution without a diagnosis. They don’t care about the cause – the “Why”. All they focus on is suppressing the effect – cause that’s all they can do. And that’s stupid and downright dangerous.
Yes, dogs have killed. Why? Humans have too – the dog is “aggressive” – but when we do it it’s a Crime of Passion. We are all products of our environments – it’s no different for the dog. So what is it about the dogs environment that brings out their monster? What made the dog expose their dark side? Something cause it – and that is the diagnosis that is seriously lacking today.
I’m sure everyone has lost their shit at some point, got really angry. Said and did things they didn’t mean to do – they became something that they didn’t recognize. That’s Jeckyl becoming Hyde. Ladies and gentlemen – that is your shadow – you became a monster. You couldn’t control yourself could you – couldn’t help your behaviours – cause you don’t understand the inner beast. That’s your animal coming out. But you try to keep it suppressed instead of embracing it – and understanding it.
We don’t understand the dogs aggression either, so we suppress it – try to control it. And there is the very problem. The dog isn’t the problem – the dog isn’t broken. Our understanding of ourselves is broken.
Dogs have taught me more about myself than any human can possibly do. Humans can teach you to be a “person” – not a human. Human is animal – we are not taught that we are animals so we only understand half of ourselves – and that’s the very problem today. “Persons” don’t recognize themselves.
If you cannot understand the animal side of yourself – then you can never recognize your own shadow – your own capacity for evil. How in the hell are you supposed to understand the dog? You cannot – and that’s the very problem today – we can’t understand the dogs aggression cause we don’t understand our own.
Yes – dogs have turned me into a monster – showed me how to interact and bring out the beast inside of me. That’s what dogs actually respect – the animal that we are. But we shove this fake human that doesn’t understand the animal down the dogs throat.
The dog is confused by us. The dog can’t recognize us anymore. And that is not a dog problem – that’s a human problem. The dog doesn’t need to be fixed – the dog isn’t broken – the dog doesn’t need to be trained. it’s US that need to step back and recognize that WE are the problem.
I have no fear of the animal that the dog is – I understand the animal that I am – and I understand the animal that the dog is. When they bluff charge me – feel free – I know they don’t have intent to harm. But once they realize it’s not working and they disengage? I expose the very monster in me that they created – and that’s what dogs respect – and they respect it very quickly.
We as a “species” of animal need to step back and re-evaluate ourselves – and what we are being told to do to our dogs instead.
I am disgusted at what “dog training” has done to humanity and mans best friend. We need to stop calling this garbage “dog training” – it’s dog abuse and nothing more. If you haven’t figured it out yet – dog trainers are abusing YOU AND YOUR DOG – for money. There is your trauma bond – with your dog and dog training. Dog trainers are preying on the trauma bond that you have with your dog – exacerbating your fears and they are making off like bandits. It would be so easy for me to prey on that trauma bond that dog owners have – but I don’t have it in me – I need to sleep at night.
What is fear at its’ core but lack of trust and understanding. You will never trust that which you do not understand.
Man fears that which it does not understand – if he can’t control and manage it – then he destroys it. That’s what “dog training” has become. They don’t care to understand the dog – they are afraid of the dog – hence the tools of control and management.
It’s Knowledge that leads to understanding. Knowledge is YOUR POWER. Knowledge has been taken away from you – your very POWER has been taken away from you by dog trainers through the application of negative reinforcement – punishment – the removal of your Positive Reinforcement. And then they reward that punishment. There is your trauma bond – and the cycle of reward and punishment.
In order to take control – to get your power back – you need knowledge cause that is what leads to understanding. You respect that which you understand – instead of fear it.
Jordan Peterson is a clinical Psychologist. And he explains all this beautifully. BE NOT AFRAID.
Ha! Before I got to the bottom, I immediately thought of Jordan Peterson and speeches I’ve heard of his where he essentially says that you should acknowledge and develop your inner monster – and then learn to control it.
Animals respect the monster. That’s reality. What is the monster? Your very animal nature. Dogs taught me more about myself than any human – they taught me how to control the animal that I am – the monster that I am.
